surf breathing

it struck me
this morning whilst sitting,
the amazing correspondence
between breathing
and the rhythm of the surf
at ocean's edge..
indescribable
thrill of natural breath
working autonomously,
day in day out,
on and on..
deep satisfaction of the
effortless drawing in of oxygen,
then exhalation of used air,
gently dispelled from frame,
again and again
and again..
how marvellous would it be
if the rhythm of one's breath
was as tranquil as the
ineffable meandering of surf!
imagine if you will
breathing in as the pull of
thousands of kilometres of water
drags salty foam
across the sand..
many moments later,
fresh ripples of foam cascade
mightily forward,
breaking laterally along
beach's infinite width..
another moment,
another breath,
eternal repose.

YES! I noticed this when they ask you to focus on the pause inbetween the the in and the out breaths, it feels like such a fluid process, like the waves, one overlapping the next. I often use this imagery when I have to give guided meditations, to encourage the allowing of the natural breath rather than an attempt to control. Isn’t breathing fantastic. :)
I am going to the seashore to practice this meditation. Through myself into the ocean, into the universe.
Thank you for sharing.
That wonderful gal above me linked me here … and I am so glad she did. This poem rings truth and beauty in every word.
