On developing Mindfulness.........

There is a tendency to focus on Mindfulness on the zafu (meditation cushion) - after all, that is why we are sitting in the first place, is it not? Further, there is the ingrained inclination to come off of the cushion and 'snap' into 'normal thinking' mode - as if , in fact, the sitting is a separate activity.
My current continuing koan (metaphysical tester) is to learn to take this Mindfulness further each time; having arisen from the mat, continue to maintain awareness cultivated and nurtured so diligently through meditation.
There is struggle, frustration but joy and increasing confidence in this striving. I have noticed, for example the tiny details and subtleties that manifest in each movement and activity following on from 'arising from the mat'. It is a labour of love, really. To continuously bring yourself back once, ten times, hundreds of times, ten thousand times daily to the Present...............okay what is really going on here? So easy to sneak by any unpleasantness, any slight irritation - gloss over malicious thoughts ' "look at the state ---, glad that is not me" ' and so on....................the Right way is to stop the autopilot, look into the motivation for that thought and however excruiciating and painful it may seem, let the resolution come, let it go and perform the next act of examination/exhumation that will present itself very shortly.............all of this and of course daily living in the world with all of its hustle, bustle, non-sequitors, contact, agreement, disagreement, brick walls, flow and so on.
Who said it was going to be easy? But there again - pause for a moment; check out that sky above the skyline to the West - you will never see that configuration again. Never, ever. And yet. And yet, it grows on you.
Enjoy the rest of the day. Enjoy the rest of your life. Be brave, warrior like. Do not be a worrier..................
With bows........................
